Explorer II
There is nothing even remotely dainty about the Rolex Explorer watch, the luxury watchmaker's tribute to the fearless adventurers who have been bravely blazing new trails and conquering the world's last frontiers.
The Explorer II is a Rolex Oyster Perpetual chronometer offering certain advantages to explorer's and long distance travelers. It features the date, 24 hour hand and 24 hour graduated bezel, plus a 12 hour hand that can be adjusted to allow for changes in time zones.
The Explorer II
The world class craftsmen and artisans at Rolex set a milestone when the Explorer was designed in the nineteen fifties. With its durable case and it’s simple and reliable functionality the Explorer was the standard luxury watch for the sportsman. The Rolex Explorer II is the perfect upgrade to that tradition. Synthesizing the needs of low light conditions with the classic durability and function of its predecessor, the Explorer II is today’s standard high end timepiece for the adventurous spirit.
When the model came out in 1971 Rolex had given the Explorer a date bubble, an engraved twenty four hour Bezel and an orange twenty four hour hand, to help the wearer read the dial in the near dark. Over time there were other adjustments and improvements in the Explorer II, such as the switch to mercedes hands and the addition of a sapphire crystal, but by the mid nineteen eighties the adventurer’s favorite timepiece was coming standardized with 40mm case giving the watch a heavy weight, red colored twenty four hour hand making it easier to read in low light conditions, and a wider bezel that gives the Explorer II its recognizable look.
The Explorer II was made with the speleologist in mind and the engraved bezel along with the red twenty four hour hand helps to distinguish daytime and nighttime when the cave explorer is under ground for hours. The thick bezel and oyster bracelet are the signature of the Explorer II. Perfect for flashing style and fine taste, and complimenting the active lifestyle the Explorer is the quintessential Rolex. Today the Rolex Explorer II is one of the most recognizable luxury watches in the world.
