Rolex Submariner
The Rolex Oyster Perpetual Submariner is a collection of diving watches manufactured by Rolex as part of their Oyster Perpetual Professional line. It was first revealed at the Basel watch fair in 1954 and created quite a stir.
The Rolex Submariner was the first watch to be certified to a depth of 1000 feet and the first Rolex to feature the Triple Crown Lock. It has a unidirectional rotating bezel and comes in stainless steel, two-tone 18kt gold and stainless steel, or solid 18kt yellow gold.
The original Rolex Submariner models, manufactured until 1958, are often referred to as the James Bond models. They feature some differences, including a smaller crown, no crown guard, and the bezel only had minute markers every 5 minutes.

Customized Submariner
It is also comes available with or without the date on the face. The dial of the Rolex Submariner are typically black or blue, with blue being the most popular. As any Rolex owner will know, there are also a huge range of customizations available for the Submariner. The custom dials are available in gold, silver, mother-of-pearl with or without diamonds, among others.
Diving Utility
The bezel of the Rolex Submariner can be rotated counter-clock wise to time the amount of air left in an oxygen tank. The single direction rotation eliminates the possibility of overestimating the amount of oxygen left on a dive.
The watch is also equipped with the Triple Crown Lock that offers waterproof qualities. The Fliplock Oyster bracelet provide a secure fit so the watch will not fall off during a dive.
Rolex Sea-Dweller
The Rolex Sea-Dweller, introduced in 1967, was a heavier-duty version of the Submariner. It is made of steel and has a thicker case with no Cyclops eye. The Sea-Dweller also incorporated a helium escape valve. It was also rated for 2000 feet.
The Sea-Dweller was superseded by the Rolex Deep Sea Sea-Dweller in late 2008 with the last few Sea-Dwellers produced running into the V-series (late 2008). The Rolex Deep Sea Sea-Dweller is rated to 4000 feet.
